P.U.P. secretariat refutes Espat’s parting shot
And speaking of political effect, you’d think the Peoples’ United Party would be happy that Mark Espat dropped out of the race for leader, setting the stage for the happy convention of Francis Fonseca on March thirtieth. And while there may be some smiles on North Front Street and Meighan Avenue, it did not stop the crowd on Queen Street from issuing a two page press release titled “Correcting Mark Espat’s Inaccuracies”. The basic message is that contrary to Mark’s statement aired last night, the P.U.P. National Council meeting last Wednesday was a model of democracy in which the members soundly rejected the constitutional changes proposed by the Espat faction. The release also rejected Espat’s claims of pro-Fonseca bias on the part of the P.U.P. secretariat and the P.U.P. radio station, Positive Vibes. It still remains unclear what role Espat, Johnny Briceño or Cordel Hyde will play at the convention—or for that matter in the House of Representatives where they comprise half the opposition seats. Like Said Musa and Francis Fonseca, Espat has declined numerous requests to speak with the media.
