More questions than answers in U.H.S. scandal
When we last visited the case of the missing money there was a standoff between the governor of the Central Bank—who told the Belize Bank, under threat of criminal sanctions, to hand over the Venezuelan U.S. ten million—and the Belize Bank, which said the Central Bank’s directive was unlawful and void. For the last two days we have been trying to get hold of Central Bank Governor Sydney Campbell, primarily to ask under what law or regulation he issued his directive, but no luck, as it seems he was too busy to take or return the call. The same goes for former Prime Minister Said Musa, who has yet to answer such basic questions as:
– Why he diverted twenty million U.S. dollars of public funds to pay the Belize Bank … and neglected to tell anyone.
– Why it is that after settling the debt in full with the Belize Bank the government does not own U.H.S.
– And, what happened to the money Doctor Venny ostensibly paid for his reputed controlling interest in U.H.S.
While none of these folks are talking, we can safely assume that there is a whole lot of interesting information yet to be revealed. If the past is any guide, Prime Minister Dean Barrow knows far more than he is telling … and will release it slowly and deliberately for maximum political effect.
