Dangriga man charged with attempted murder
A Dangriga resident has been charged with attempted murder after he assaulted a shop owner in a drunken rage. According to twenty-two year old Frank Lui, at nine on Friday night, he was closing his store on Pen Road when his neighbour, thirty-two year old Francis Sampson showed up wanting to buy brandy. But Lui says Sampson was already drunk and carrying a machete so he made up an excuse not to sell him the liquor. But the businessman says his decision angered Sampson and the two began to quarrel. Lui has reported the shouting match escalated to violence when Sampson used the machete to chop him in the head, over his right eye and on the left elbow. In retaliation, the injured man pulled out his licensed nine millimetre pistol and fired at his attacker but missed. Sampson was later picked up by police and has been charged with Wounding, Aggravated Assault, Use of Deadly Means of Harm and Attempted Murder. Lui was treated for his injuries at the Southern Regional Hospital and released to recuperate at home.
