Shopkeeper wounds robber; cops looking for accomplices
While the attacks on local business houses continue unabated, it’s no surprise that citizens are starting to fight back. That’s what a trio of thieves figured out the hard way on Saturday night when they held up the Galaxy Supermarket on Gwen Lizarraga Street in Belama Phase Two. According to Guihe Denge, he was at the counter when three masked men walked in, ambushed the security guard and put a gun in his face. The bandits then stole a cell phone, a wallet with a hundred and fifty dollars in cash, four hundred bucks from the register and another four hundred dollars worth of telephone cards. But as the men ran from the store they ran into a customer coming in and wound up shooting at him. In retaliation, the customer took out his own gun and fired at the fleeing trio. A bullet caught one of the men and a police search of the bushes behind the Biltmore Plaza resulted in the arrest of eighteen year old Cardinal Welch who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the left ankle. Welch is tonight in stable condition under guard in the K.H.M.H. pending charges of Robbery and Aggravated Assault. Meanwhile, police continue to look for his accomplices and the missing loot.
