O.W. infant dies in freak accident
An Orange Walk community is in mourning tonight following the tragic death of a toddler. According to San Felipe villager Isabel Cowo, on Saturday morning her two year old son Eliseo Cowo went outside to play. But the mother says when she went to check on the child around eleven that morning, he was nowhere to be found. A search party was immediately launched but it wasn’t until four that afternoon that a fifteen year old looking for the boy thought to look inside an abandoned Saturn car in the neighbour’s yard. Lying on a pillow on the front seat was little Eliseo, showing no signs of life. The child was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival. Orange Walk police do not suspect foul play but the exact cause of death is expected from the results of a post mortem examination conducted today. Investigators say children from the village often play in or around the parked car because the door locks don’t work. It is believed the child was overcome by the intense heat inside the vehicle.
