Weekend steel band concert to finance U.S. gig
They are primary school students with an interest in music but if a Belmopan steel band is going to go international next week, they need your help. The Panerrifix Steel Band from Our Lady of Guadalupe School in Belmopan is planning to play in Denver later this month but to accomplish that mission, they’ve got to boost local sales for this weekend’s concert and drum up a whole lot of additional support from the public. Band director Julietta Burrowes explains.
Julietta Burrowes, Band Dir., Panerrifix Steel Band
“Over the New years the band was performing at Turtle Inn in Placencia and I guess at the inn heard us and was impressed with us and invited us to go to Denver on a tour. We didn’t know for sure exactly how that would work out but we’ve been doing some fundraising and we’ve managed to purchase all the tickets so far for the kids. We’re scheduled to leave next week Monday to Denver Colorado. Once we get there we’re scheduled to play at several schools, it’s a cultural exchange between our school and other schools in the Denver area. So we will be performing at at least three different schools and we’re supposed to be the opening act for a concert at the Celtics events in Denver Colorado.”
According to Burrowes, the band is short of five thousand dollars to send their instruments abroad. If you would like to help, please call Burrowes at 601-0621. The Panerrifix Steel Band will join forces with the Pantempters Steel Orchestra in tomorrow’s concert at the George Price Centre. The event is set to start at six in the evening.
