Public fight between cops climax with suspension
The ongoing quarrel between high ranking officers of the Belize Police Department has climaxed with one of the cops involved being suspended. Less than twenty-four hours after he was transferred to a desk job in Belmopan and talking to the media, Senior Superintendent, Chester Williams has been suspended from official duty. On Thursday, Williams told the press that he believed his transfer was politically motivated and that one of his fellow colleagues, Superintendent Edward Broaster, had been trying to frame him for murder of wanted man, Jermaine Fuentes, who went missing more than six years ago. When we spoke to Williams today he told us that while he has yet to receive anything in writing, Commissioner of Police Gerald Westby called him in this morning to inform him that he was being suspended on two grounds: one, for the alleged threat he made against Broaster earlier this week, and two, because he discussed the matter with the media on Thursday. Our repeated attempts to reach Commissioner Westby for comment on the latest developments proved fruitless.
