P.U.P. leadership candidate yet to decide if he’s still in the race
As we reported on last night’s newscast, Orange Walk Central area representative John Briceño has dropped out of the race for leadership of the People’s United Party, saying he would not participate in a quote “rigged election”. This morning News Five’s Janelle Chanona asked candidate Mark Espat if he plans to follow in Briceño’s footsteps.
Mark Espat, candidate, P.U.P. Leadership
“I’m in the process of consultation Janelle and I had spoken to quite a number of people over the last few weeks and I am speaking with them again to make a decision. Obviously we’re very disappointed in the rejection of the reform proposals.”
The other candidate contesting the March thirtieth convention is Freetown area representative, Francis Fonseca. Briceño and Espat had supported a motion to expand the list of delegates that would vote in the election from one in a hundred to one for every twenty-five. That motion was defeated at the P.U.P.’s National Party Council meeting on Wednesday.
