High ranking cop gets taste of life in L.A.

Story PictureBelize is the only place where police shoot criminals caught in the act, right? Wrong, of course, and this week one of Belize’s most well known cops learned that fact first hand. According to reports in the U.S. media, Assistant Commissioner Allen Whylie, in Los Angeles this week attending an international conference on gang violence, entered an auto parts store in North Hollywood to buy an antenna for his car. He was in the company of two U.S. Marshals. As one of the Marshals walked into the store a man holding a wad of cash and a knife ran out. The lawman ordered the man to stop but the robber lunged toward him with the knife. That’s when the Marshal fired several shots … fatally wounding the man who was D.O.A. at a local hospital. Whylie, who is no stranger to police-criminal confrontations, told a reporter for television station KABC that although it was his first visit to L.A., he planned to return.
