Charges withdrawn against accused cop
The shooting murders of Eugene Flores and Roberto Torres as they rode home with friends on Valentine’s Day made big headlines. Police were quick to arrest four people, including one of their own, Constable Gilbert Hyde, Jr. But today Hyde is a free man as the Director of Public Prosecutions, Lutchman Sooknandan, directed that the charge of conspiracy to commit murder against Hyde be withdrawn, due to lack of evidence. The others accused, Ryan Felix, Albert Allen and Earl Hamilton Junior, remain charged with conspiracy to commit murder and Felix and Allen face additional charges of Abetment to Commit Murder. A sixteen year old was charged with the murders of Flores and Torres and the Attempted Murder of wounded Ron Thomas.
