Top female cop addresses police women

Story PictureToday the female complement of the Police Department made their presence felt during Women’s Week. The occasion was an award ceremony at the Police Training Academy in Belmopan where three women were recognised for their service to the Department. This was one occasion when Acting Commissioner, Maureen Leslie got the chance to mix humour with an official address.

Maureen Leslie, Ag. Commissioner of Police
“As women we play a crucial part in the development of any nation, especially in Belize. I’m a bit disappointed that we don’t have any female reps in the House and maybe when I retire I may consider putting my two big foot in there. But we are mothers, we are single parents too, we are taking care of our elderlies, we have to compete at out workplace for success, we have to embrace our male colleagues who sometimes don’t appreciate our worth and we do all this with a smile. But ladies, a nice day is planned for you. I want you to go out there, those who want to swim please do so. I know we have a couple male photographers, I don’t’ want to see any stupidness on the net who is going with us because it is our day and we got to release some tension and pressure.”

Corporal Joan Grinage was recognised for her service as a constable and W.P.C. Sharmaine Yorke was honoured as the Officer of the month of January, while Jermaine Bradley was acknowledged for her contributions as a secretary in the department. As the Acting Commissioner noted, the one hundred and twenty female officers and civilian support staff spent the rest of the day on an outing in the Cayo District.
