Prison inmate escapes by swapping identities
His nickname is “Possum” but tonight twenty-three year old prison inmate Kevin Dawson isn’t out of jail because he played dead; it’s because he pretended he was someone else. According to court reports, Dawson, who is serving a five year sentence for burglary, was to appear in court this morning on a charge of Drug Trafficking. However it is believed that while in the Queen Street Police Station lock-up, Dawson used the gift of a gold chain to convince fellow inmate Frederick Flowers to switch clothes…and identities. So when officers came to take Flowers to court this morning, Dawson took his place, pled guilty to a simple possession charge for weed and was fined three hundred dollars. Because the court ordered that he had until November thirtieth to pay up, the defendant was free to leave. People standing outside the courtroom noticed that as he walked away from the building, the young man kept looking back to see if anyone was following him. No one caught on until this afternoon when the real Frederick Flowers appeared in court. Flowers was immediately taken back to the holding cell pending charges of a Mischievous Act. Police are now searching for the clever Possum.
