Cuba awards 21 medical scholarships
The government of Cuba has announced the award of scholarships to twenty-one Belizeans to study medicine in that country. According to a release from the Cuban Embassy, the students were selected following a series of interviews with officials in the ministries of Education, Health, and Foreign Affairs in addition to the embassy. They will begin their bachelor level studies a year from now at the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana. In the near future additional Cuban scholarships will be announced in the fields of sports and engineering. Of the twenty-one medical students selected, six each hail from the Corozal and Cayo Districts, five live in the Belize District, two in Stann Creek and one each from Orange Walk and Corozal.
