Accident in city could have been much worse

Story PictureA delivery truck driver was rushed by ambulance to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital this morning following an accident on Cemetery Road. Around nine this morning, Twenty-seven year old Earl Johnson, accompanied by another employee of Sunnyside Bakery, was driving down the busy street when it appears he tried to avoid rear ending the vehicle in front of him by swerving to the right. The delivery truck jumped the sidewalk and rammed into a lamppost. An eyewitness to the accident told News Five he thinks the truck was having problems with its brakes.

“Well wah vehicle just stop near by front ah him and therefore when he swerve away right, da den he end up into the sidewalk and the sidewalk trip the vehicle into the post.”

“So he lucky nobody neva deh pan the sidewalk?”

Charles Martinez
“Well if somebody was there, dem died. Deh mi wah dead definitely.”

Janelle Chanona
“So you think the man brakes mi deh work?”

Charles Martinez
“Well at dat moment apparently maybe it neva mi di work yu nuh. Because the fastness ah weh he gawn down behind the vehicle, when he gawn done fi brakes nothing happen.”

Johnson sustained injuries to his face as a result of the accident but was treated and released.
