Corozal police looking for man who raped 13 year old
It’s a common sight on Belizean streets… “sales-children” carrying containers of food door to door to help their families make ends meet. But over the weekend, one little girl selling Johnny cakes in Corozal Town was kidnapped and raped while making her daily rounds. According to the thirteen year old victim, she was in the Alta Mira area when a man, described as East Indian in appearance and driving a white pick up truck, pulled alongside her, forced her inside the vehicle and drove off. The child says during the ride her attacker blindfolded her, tied her hands behind her back and took her to an abandoned house where he raped her. The rapist then dropped the student off in the Chula Vista neighbourhood. Up to news time, police were following several leads but no arrests had been made.
Meanwhile, a woman from the Cayo district has also reported that she was raped. According to the twenty-nine year old victim, around two-thirty Sunday morning she was outside a nightspot on the Bullet Tree Road in San Ignacio when she got into what she thought was a taxi. But instead of taking her to her destination, the woman says the man stopped the car on a dark street, choked her and told her to take off her clothes. The driver then stole her cell phone and jewellery and took her to a house in Santa Elena where he had sex with her against her will. One man has been detained for questioning.
