Guyanese natl caught with ingredients for counterfeit cash

Story PictureHe came to Belize in July of this year, and tonight forty one year old Guyanese national, Calvin Fitzpatrick Lewis, finds himself in trouble with the law. The charge against him is a rare one, Preparation to a Crime. Police allege that on September third they searched Lewis’ house on Freshman Lane in the West Landivar and found U.S. and local currency notes along with liquid solutions and an iron. His lawyer, Bernard Pitts, requested bail after his client pleaded not guilty. Police are trying to establish that he had in his possession paper cut in dimensions to forge Belize and U.S. currency notes and bottles of liquid solutions. Police also claim they found passports at Lewis’s home and are investigating. The case first went before the court last week, he was denied bail, but today, Pitts secured bail for Lewis. Pitts submitted that his client should be treated as a guest despite his nationality. Pitts said that police approached his client at the Princess Hotel and Casino in Cayo and invited him to the station where they spoke with him and released him. But they later asked him to take them to his house where they confiscated his passport and then charged him. Lewis is due back in court on September thirtieth.
