Police arrest man who allegedly robbed, sodomised tourist
A man from Dangriga will appear in Magistrates’ Court on Friday after he allegedly robbed a tourist and sodomised him at a residence north of Seine Bight Village. Twenty-three year old Jerris Martinez allegedly held up his victim by surprise with a knife as he was on his verandah using his computer around four-thirty Wednesday morning. Police say Martinez took the sixty-four year old man inside the bedroom, tied him up and robbed him of a wrist watch, cellular phone, camera and nine hundred U.S. dollars. But the culprit was not quite finished. He then stripped his victim of his clothes and proceeded to sodomise him. Justifiably disturbed by the attack, the man left the country yesterday for the U.S. He had been here to help his son build a house in the village and had been living alone. However, he told police before his departure that he is willing to return to testify when the case is called. Martinez was caught after a second incident later that morning when he allegedly assaulted a woman who lives a mile or so up the beach in the Plantation area of the peninsula. Her assailant was acting suspiciously and asked the woman for water. When she declined he started to choke her but was chased off by a caretaker. Special constables, belonging to the Plantation Emergency Response Team, responded quickly and detained Martinez until police arrived. They found Martinez still in possession of items stolen from the tourist in the first attack. Martinez is no stranger to the law as he was convicted in 2002 of Robbery and has served a five year sentence. He has been charged with Aggravated Burglary, Wounding and committing an Unnatural Crime upon the sixty-four year old tourist, and Harm upon the woman.
