…And Bze City tour guide dies in crash at Mussel Creek Bridge

Story PictureThe second accident that occurred over the weekend involved a Belize City resident. Thirty-nine year old Lawrence Cleland, a tour guide of Faber’s Road was travelling alone in the direction of Scotland Half-moon towards Burrell Boom at five-forty-five on Sunday morning when disaster struck. It is not known if Cleland fell asleep at the wheel but when his Isuzu Trooper reached the Mussel Creek Bridge he veered into the concrete median. Officer in Charge of Ladyville Police, Inspector Calbert Flowers, said Cleland was found slumped over the steering wheel.

“Police arrived at the Mussel Creek Bridge on the Bermudian Landing Road where they found a black in colour Isuzu Trooper. In the vehicle at the time, slumped over the steering wheel was the apparent lifeless body of a male person, later identified as Lawrence Cleland. Investigations reveal that Cleland was travelling in his vehicle alone heading towards Belize City from the Scotland Halfmoon area when he apparently collided into the middle portion of the bridge. The police found him alone in the vehicle. The front of the vehicle extensively damaged.”

Family members reported that Cleland’s wallet disappeared from the accident scene. A post mortem examination on Cleland’s body is expected to be conducted this Tuesday.
