Budget will be delayed as long as four months
One of the first tasks for those new appointees is to establish budgets for their respective ministries. But in view of the close proximity of the recent election to the beginning of the new financial year in April, government has decided to delay the implementation of the new budget until perhaps as late as the first of August. Until that time, under the terms of Finance and Audit Act, recurrent expenditure will remain at the levels already set for the current year. The delay should not affect the implementation of projects under the Capital Two budget, for which external financing has already been secured.
