City Council cleans up political posters

Posters and banners have always been a traditional medium for political messages but after an election, they are little more than an eyesore. According to Deputy Mayor Anthony Michael, the Belize City Council has taken notice and is working to put the old capital back in order.

“The general election is over, it is time now for all Belizeans to come together, both the Government and the Opposition to start working together so the Belize City Council took the initiative in removing all signs, both for the P.U.P., the U.D.P. and the independent candidates. It’s time to govern and the signs that are in the private lots and stuff, we are not allowed to go in there and remove them but we just ask both political parties for the signs that are in private lots, if they could have it removed, it’s time to clean up the city, put the general election behind us and let’s move on.”

According to Michael, the lampposts with painted political propaganda will have to be dealt with by their owners, Belize Electricity Limited. However, the City Council will be painting over the palm trees on Central American boulevard which had also fallen victim to the political brush.
