Cardenas charged for robbery; double murder rap pending
Luis Cardenas, who handed himself in to police following last week’s double murder in Orange Walk Town, has been remanded to the Hattieville Prison—but not on a charge of homicide … at least not yet. The eighteen year old Cardenas was charged with the armed robbery of Janine’s Shop on Sarstoon Street in that municipality on January sixth. During the hold-up, Cardenas allegedly stole a thousand dollars and a wrist watch from the proprietor, Angel Magana. The items were never recovered. While Cardenas is remanded until March twentieth on that offence, he is likely to face two more charges as police strongly believe he was the gunman who went to the home of Alfredo Urbina on Royal Palm Street last Wednesday night and opened fire, killing Nazim Romero and Jose Ricalde and wounding Noe Perez. The week before, a lone gunman had shot Urbina in both legs, and again, police suspect Cardenas was the perpetrator. Police continue to tie the pieces together before they can charge him along with several others involved in what appears to be a deadly cycle of drug related revenge crimes.
