Woman points finger at Post Office for lost cheques

Story PictureIt’s an accusation that’s been leveled at the Post Office many times: cheques that are sent to Belizeans from abroad mysteriously go missing from the mail, only to eventually turn up cashed at foreign banks. Today one woman who claims to be a victim in the scam had this message for the perpetrators.

Radiance Morter, Claims Cheques Stolen from Post Office
“When they gonna touch my retirement money, which is enough for me to live relatively comfortable and they don’t know what I went through in the states to be able come here to live this way, little bit comfortable, buy chicken back and do what have you and pay my bills, when they start doing that now, they barking up the wrong tree because I say the buck stops here. It has to stop!”

“So I am bringing this to the forefront not only for me but for people like me and worse than me. Some people don’t get what I get, some people don’t have children fu back them up and things like that I have and they are suffering because since yesterday to today, two other people tell me the same thing happen.”

Officials at the Belize Post Office declined on-camera comment but according to the country’s sole Postal Inspector, Claudia Flores, while such incidents have been reported in the past, Morter’s complaint is the only one currently on record. While the claim is being investigated to determine whether the cheques were stolen in Belize or the United States, Flores is encouraging others who may have similar grievances to please come forward. In related news, Flores admits that since the destruction of the Paslow Building, the space currently being used for mail sorting is insufficient, as are the building’s security and monitoring systems.
