Highlights of 10th September Celebrations

Story Picture It was the tenth day of September this past Thursday. And official ceremonies to celebrate the Battle of Saint George’s Caye were held at the Memorial Park in Belize City. And while the number of onlookers looked smaller than years past, it had all the traditional trimmings. The day started with the arrival of the Queen of the Bay Reena Usher, followed by the arrival of government officials and the inspection of the guard. Featured also this year, was a cultural re-enactment of the preparation for the battle by the Nu Generation Dance Company, Duets duo—Wilson Grinage and Debra Pitts—and others. And after the ceremonies, the citizens’ parade got off through the principal streets of the city and ended at the Yarborough Green with a fete. If you were unable to make it to the event, here are some highlights of the Tenth.
