Arrest made in third weekend shooting

Story PictureHis picture was distributed by police in connection with the third shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in Belize City and by this afternoon Leroy Ramsey had been arrested and charged. Police say they responded to a tip that the twenty-two year old was at a house on Neal’s Pen Road and, when they arrived there last night, they found the wanted man. Ramsey, a resident of North Creek, faces three charges: Attempted Murder, Use of Deadly Means of Harm and Dangerous Harm. Police believe Ramsey was the man who shot sixteen year old Linton Broaster to the left side of the chest and right buttocks while he walked on Raccoon Street Extension. Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb could not offer Ramsey bail because the charges are all indictable ones. This means that once sufficient evidence is established for a prosecution to proceed, the case will be tried in the Supreme Court. She did advise Ramsey, however, that within eight days, he could apply to the Supreme Court for bail. Ramsey was ordered to re-appear before the court on March twelfth. With Ramsey’s capture, police believe they have arrested all the perpetrators of this weekend’s three shootings in which nineteen year old Deandra Zetina and seventeen year old Michelle Cattouse were killed and thirteen others wounded.
