O.A.S. reports 3 more families moved from Santa Rosa

And in news from a different set of observers, the Organization of American States has announced that on Monday three more Guatemalan families were relocated from Santa Rosa, the illegal settlement in the Toledo District. According to the O.A.S., that brings to eleven the total number of families evacuated, leaving six more to go by the end of this month. The residents are being moved to a new community on a farm near Poptun in Guatemala’s Peten Department. The farm’s purchase and relocation expenses were underwritten by donations to the O.A.S. from the governments of Spain, Mexico, the United States, Turkey and the United Kingdom. At one time the Guatemalans in Santa Rosa claimed that the settlement was inside the Guatemalan border but agreed to the O.A.S. supervised evacuation when even their government admitted that they were living on Belizean territory.
