Support for bus owners from Chamber and Communication Workers Union

The bus operators are not alone in their plight and have support from many sectors. Today the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry is calling for quick resolution to the crisis and an end to what they call political cronyism in the issuance of road service permits. In the interest of the consumers, the chamber also wants the government to revert to the original bus schedules while negotiations are underway. And while the Belize Communication Workers’ Union expresses unconditional solidarity with both operators and consumers who have been affected by the schedule changes, it encourages all parties involved to keep the peace. In its release the People’s United Party echoes the demands of the Belize Bus Association and Belize Bus Owners Cooperative to restore their routes. Going straight to the heart of the matter, the P.U.P. release says that West Line owner, Sergio Chuc, was granted special permits because of his “special relationship with the U.D.P. Government and Party.”
