Some CSEC students affected by road blocks

The transportation crisis disrupted the C.X.C. exams that students were sitting today. Paper Two of the Social Studies were scheduled for this morning and Paper one was set for the afternoon. Despite delays the exams proceeded and according to officials about twenty to thirty students were affected. Here is how it fared off.

“The disruption of the public transportation affected us a bit in terms of the movement of students who do not live close to the centers where they will be sitting the examination. Added to that is also the supervisors who are supposed to go into the schools to administer the examination. So we foresaw that something would occur that would affect the examinations. So this morning the Ministry of Education contacted C.X.C. to advise them on the events and to get their advice because ultimately C.X.C. advises us on what should be done. The C.E.O. contacted C.X.C. and C.X.C. notified us that the examinations should continue as normal. That means in the morning the exams which begins at nine o’clock in the morning because you know that sixteen territories are sitting these exams at the same time so we are not supposed to have any kind of delay, no postponement of examinations because one an exam bag is opened, it is public information then we run into security issues if we do not sit the examinations when the time has been allocated for that examination. So there are certain interventions that we have in our regulations that can be made to ensure that the students sit the examinations. Number one; students are advised to sit the examinations at the set time but it is important to know that we do not want to put the students in harm’s way. If they can make it to the center, then go to the center and sit the examinations. If they cannot, then we ask the students to go and sit the examination at the closest center to where you live.”
C.X.C. also allowed for students who arrived late to be given extra time to complete exams.
