Woman wounded by ex-common law husband
A woman is recuperating from a gunshot wound after her ex-common law husband shot her in the presence of her current boyfriend. Twenty-one year old Christine Zetina told police that she and her boyfriend, Kareem Young, had just dropped off his mother on the Northern Highway and they were riding their bicycles back through Ladyville shortly before nine on Monday night. She said they passed her ex-boyfriend, Lenny Bennett, who was walking in the opposite direction on Egbert Quilter Avenue. Zetina said that as they passed Bennett, he pulled out a gun from his pants waist and fired four shots at them, one of which hit her in the left leg. Bennett then escaped into the night. Police say Bennett was released from the prison two months ago after serving a two-year sentence and he had been harassing Zetina to take him back. When she refused, Zetina told police that Bennett threatened to kill her. Cops believe Bennett is hiding in the Ladyville area and say that upon his capture he will be charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault and Dangerous Harm. Meanwhile, Zetina underwent surgery today at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital to repair her badly damaged leg.
