Two arrested for crack following high speed chase
Two Belize City men are behind bars at Hattieville Prison tonight after they were arrested and charged with Drug Trafficking. According to investigators, around four in the afternoon last week Wednesday, officers manning a check point outside Belmopan noticed that a green Camry heading towards Belize City made a quick u-turn when they saw the police. The cops set chase and say that a subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a black plastic bag containing ten smaller bags of suspected crack cocaine. The two men in the car at the time, twenty-five year old taxi driver Gary Cooper and twenty-seven year old Richard Russell, were immediately arrested and jointly charged with drug trafficking. Both Cooper and Russell pleaded not guilty and were offered bail of five thousand dollars plus a surety of the same amount. But the men were unable to come up with the money and were remanded to Hattieville Prison until the fourth of March.
