Cayo teen dies after knockdown on Western Highway
A Cayo teen has died as a result of a traffic accident. Police reports are that on Wednesday, sixteen year old Thomasita de Jesus Martinez of Central Farm was attempting to cross the Western Highway when she was hit by a pick-up truck. The sixteen year old was pronounced dead on arrival at the San Ignacio Hospital. According to Santa Elena resident Roquelino Casteneda, around three that afternoon he was driving his Toyota Tacoma west from Belmopan when between miles sixty-three and sixty-four he saw two persons attempting to cross the road. Casteneda told police that while he was able to avoid hitting one of the pedestrians, he could not evade Martinez. Police have detained the thirty-one year old driver pending further investigations.
