Firearms marking cooperation between government of Belize and OAS
The Gang Suppression Unit has taken numerous weapons off the streets, but the movement of illegal firearms extends far beyond our borders. A Firearms Marking Cooperation Agreement signed between the Government of Belize and the Organization of American States (O.A.S.) seeks to bring the trade under control, by tracking weapon smuggling throughout the region. It was also agreed that the Secretariat for Multidimensional Security will provide resources to Restore Belize for economic development programmes in the city’s crime hot spots. Signing on behalf of G.O.B. was George Lovell, the C.E.O. in the Ministry of Police and Public Safety while Ambassador Adam Blackwell, Secretary for Multidimensional Security of the O.A.S. signed on behalf of the Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza.
