Belize Medical Associates robbed of more than $10,000

A daring, mid-afternoon heist at the Belize Medical Associates on Saturday has netted a pair of robbers over eleven thousand dollars in cash and checks.  The robbery also landed an employee in detention pending the outcome of a police investigation.  Two armed men entered the building’s main office on Saint Thomas Street shortly after two o’clock where they proceeded to gag and handcuff two women: Lilia Aleman and Andrea Enriquez. One of the men then demanded that Kira Aleman open the safety deposit box.  A total of eleven thousand, seven hundred and fifty dollars in various denominations including checks was stolen. A silver and black Sony Ericson cell phone valued at four hundred dollars as well as a green handbag and another cell phone were also taken from the employees.  Police have since detained Enriquez pending investigations as it is believed that the robbery may have been an inside job.
