Palacio flown to Chicago for treatment

Story PictureThere is political news galore tonight but those matters must take a backseat to developments surrounding the condition of Belizean musical icon Andy Palacio. News five has confirmed that the forty-seven year old Palacio is in the process of being flown by air ambulance to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he will receive tests not available locally. Dr. Joel Cervantes, one of the physicians treating Palacio, says that it is premature to make a conclusive diagnosis but other sources close to the award winning musician say he experienced two stroke-like seizures this morning. According to Dr. Cervantes, Andy remains in a stable condition, able to talk and is in good spirits. He is, however, experiencing some dizziness and has trouble standing up. At news time Andy’s departure was said to be imminent but snowy conditions in Chicago could delay the take off of the private jet. He will be accompanied by his cousin, National Garifuna Council Chairman Mike Polonio. Dr. Cervantes says they have referred a number of patients to the neuro-intensive care unit at the University Hospital and the quality of patient care is excellent. Palacio collapsed Wednesday morning in Belmopan and was taken to Belize Diagnostic Center for tests and spent the night at Universal Health Services in Belize City.
