Accused killers set free by D.P.P.
Two men accused of murder were free to leave the court today after the Director of Prosecutions withdrew the charges against them. In the first case, eighteen year old Kenroy Humes had been charged with killing twenty nine year old Gilbert Phillips, which occurred almost two years ago. But Crown Counsel Douglas Carr was forced to enter a nolle prosequi today because his witnesses have refused to cooperate in the matter. Phillips was shot once in the head at the corner of St. Jude Street by a lone gunman around noon on April ninth 2006.
Meanwhile, Carr had to enter the same plea in another murder case, this time against Leonardo Cassanova, one of two men charged in connection to the death of Jose Noe Barrow. The accused was never indicted on the charge but remanded into custody following the shooting. According to Carr, the Office of the DPP has determined that there is insufficient evidence against Cassanova. He was defended by attorney Hubert Elrington. Barrow was shot and killed on December fourth 2006 at Conch Shell Bay.
