Partially blind man disappears

Seventy-three year old Myra Cardinez, a resident of Belize City, is tonight appealing to the public to assist in locating her son who has been reported missing since Thursday of last week. Roy Cardinez, a partially blind forty-three year old, traveled to Dangriga Town to collect monies from the local Social Security Board branch. It is a routine, his mother says, that sees him journeying south regularly in the wake of an injury he received while working in the citrus industry a while back. Cardinez, who also has relatives in the Stann Creek District, has not been seen or heard from since he caught the bus en route to Dangriga five days ago. His mother is making a desperate plea for assistance in finding him alive.

“He went from there from Thursday the sixteenth [of June.] Ih gone da Stann Creek fu ih money from Social Security [Board] but he hasn’t returned as yet. I phone Stann Creek, I’ve phoned all about [and] nobody cannot give account about him. I don’t know paat ih deh.”

“Have you filed an official police report?”

“Yes sir, I went out there da di police station and I tell dehn bout it.”

“Have they began any effort to locate? Have they been in contact with you with regards to this particular effort?”

“I only reported it, I don’t know if they do anything towards it.”

“At this point what is your appeal to the public?”

“I appeal to the public if dehn know weh paat Roy Cardinez deh please contact the nearest police station or contact Myra Cardinez in Belize City.”

“Give us a description of your son.”

“Ih dark, ih have one eye, ih wear wah dark sunshades. Ih lee bit tall, ih fava me noh.”

“More or less how old is he?”

“Forty-three.”

“What was he last seen wearing? What kind of clothes was he wearing?”
Myra Cardinez
“Ih mih had on wah black pants and wa dark shirt too and wah pair ah boots. Noh rubber boots, di other kinda boots noh.”
