S.J.C. dedicates new science labs
It may not have been a politically motivated event but progress is welcomed whenever and wherever you find it. Today an improvement in education took the form of the dedication of a new science laboratory at St. Johns College High School. According to S.J.C. president Frank Garbutt, the value of the new facility is not measured in money or equipment.
Frank Garbutt, President, S.J.C.
“It is not how much the labs cost that we ought to focus on or even how aesthetically beautiful they are; it is the young people who will be using it and the teachers who will be in there that we ought to most focus on. Whenever they go to those facilities we want them to be inspired. Whenever they are in those rooms, we want them to think about how they will grow up to inspire others. We want them to dream and imagine the day that they will be a doctor, a scientist, a chemist, that they will own their own business and have the knowledge to be able to understand how invention occurs, how creativity comes about, how to be thoughtful and methodical in thinking through problems. In other words, we want those rooms to be places that allow them to go way beyond their ordinary work.”
Garbutt says funding for the lab came largely from the institution’s local resources.
