Cops finally convict well known suspect

Story PictureToday a man well known to police was finally put behind bars after he was found guilty of two counts of burglary. What’s significant about this case was that twenty-nine year old Kenrick Reneau has come before the courts countless times—as many as sixty, say police—but has always managed to somehow get off. Today his luck ran out when Deputy Commander of Eastern Division, Sr. Superintendent Chester Williams, took matters into his own hands. Williams says we can expect to see him in the courtroom more often focusing on habitual criminals.

Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, Deputy Commander, Eastern Division
“As a part of our strategy in the Police Department to try and get to those persons who are constantly committing a breach of law, breaking into homes, committing burglaries, I decided to take up the prosecution of the matter in relation to Dr. Usher’s Dental Clinic and his residence, which occurred during the time of Hurricane Dean. And I prosecuted the matter and was successful in that prosecution. I must say that we will be targeting more of those persons who are repeat offenders, who believe that they can commit offence and come to court and walk. I will say that our Police Prosecution Branch has been doing a good job, but because of the fact that they are tied up with a lot of court cases, sometimes they do not have the time to really study the cases and that is why we see that the conviction rate at times is low. So people like myself who have good knowledge of prosecution could come out sometimes and assist in major incidence to see how best we could present a case to the court and see if we could get a conviction.”

Williams says his time helping out in the courtroom will not detract from his other work. Kenrick Reneau was found guilty along with eighteen year old Julian Ebanks. Both men were each sentenced by Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb to a total of ten years in prison for two burglaries that occurred between August twentieth and the twenty-first at the home and clinic of Doctor Osbert Usher.
