Teen sentenced to life in prison
An eighteen year old tonight faces life behind bars instead of a bright future with endless possibilities. Kevin Santos was sentenced to life in prison today after he was convicted of murder. The jury deliberated for almost three hours before returning a unanimous guilty verdict in the case against Santos. It was pure mischief that landed Santos in court because he and a group of friends decided to make trouble for another group of youths on Christmas Eve of 2006. The victim, Chris Rosales, was walking with friends on Burns Avenue in San Ignacio when they were attacked by Santos and his crew because of the color of his shirt. During the violent confrontation, Rosales was stabbed to the back and chest, while Justin Rodriguez was injured on the right arm and Kennylee Gonzalez suffered a stab wound to the stomach. Rosales was pronounced dead on arrival at the Western Regional Hospital. Santos, who was only sixteen years old at the time of the murder, was arrested and charged on January second, 2007. Another youth Kevin Diaz—detained at that time and charged for the Attempted Murder of Rosales’ friends, Rodriguez and Gonzalez—is still awaiting trial.
