Neighbour’s call saves homeowner’s property
It’s every homeowner’s worst nightmare: to open the front door and find a house emptied by thieves. But according to court reports, thanks to a concerned neighbour, a Mahogany Heights resident was saved from that experience and tonight the accused burglars are behind bars. On Friday night, Belize City investigators were tipped off that the home of Norman Alamina had been broken into and the culprits were making their getaway by taxi. The cops managed to intercept the car at mile twenty-five on the Western Highway and immediately detained occupants, twenty-six year old Tyron Estrada, twenty-five year old Ernie Miranda and the driver, twenty-year old Tyrone Young. Police say a subsequent search of the car led to the recovery of Alamina’s missing property. Estrada and Miranda have since been charged with Burglary and Handling Stolen Goods. The taxi’s driver, Tyrone Young, has also been charged with Handling Stolen Goods. All three accused men were offered bail of five thousand dollars but they were unable to come up with the money. The trio will remain in remand at the Hattieville Prison until their next court date on February twenty-second.
