Women attacked by husbands in separate cases

Separate assaults on women have left one man behind bars and another on the run. According to police, around eleven on Wednesday morning, San Pedro residents Josela Panti and her common law husband Christopher Matura started to quarrel. But the argument turned physical and Panti is now accusing Matura of beating her into unconsciousness. But if that wasn’t bad enough, the twenty-eight year old says that when she woke up she felt a pain in her side and was shocked to see blood coming from a stab wound on the left side of her abdomen. In the second case, court reports are that this morning twenty-four year old Rafael Reyes pled not guilty to the charges of Aggravated Assault and Harm against his ex-common-law-wife. According to thirty-three year old Deborah Sam, last week Thursday she was walking on Magazine Road when Reyes rode up to her on bicycle, put a gun to her face and then threatened to kill her. The victim then claims that Reyes punched her, bruising her left eye. Magistrate Alberto Hoare has remanded the accused until February nineteenth.

Of note is that Reyes was one of four men who were charged with Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition on Thursday. Apparently, police officers on patrol spotted someone with a gun in a white Honda Accord and following a search of the car, discovered a nine millimetre Glock pistol with seven rounds of ammunition under the front passenger seat. Reyes was offered and met bail of five thousand dollars. That case was adjourned until February sixth.
