Police bust up robbery ring in Orange Walk town

Story PictureWhile two police men were taking flak on the job on Christmas Day, others were hard at work breaking up a robbery ring in Orange Walk Town. According to cops in the north, a series of break-ins had deprived businesses and homeowners of thousands of dollars in property. The most recent incident occurred on December nineteenth when thieves broke into the Traders Centre at the corner of San Antonio Road and Progress Street and stole things like a power saw, two swords, rat traps, dog soaps, insecticides, and bolt cutters. An informant’s tip later led investigators to the home of twenty-five year old James Pelayo and twenty-three year old Jaime Triminio where officers found some of the missing equipment hidden in different parts of the house. A third man, thirty-four year old Javier Salazar was also linked to the crime and all three were charged with Burglary. Salazar appeared in Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court this morning where he pled guilty and was sentenced to six years behind bars. Pelayo and Triminio opted to plea not guilty. The Magistrate decided to remand Pelayo until January eleventh since this is not the first time he has been charged with burglary but offered Triminio bail in the amount of five thousand dollars because it was his first offence. Orange Walk police are now asking members of the community to visit the police station to identify other items, including cell phones, video game paraphernalia, a video camera, and tennis shoes which are believed to be the proceeds of other burglaries. In related news, police are also seeking a third Orange Walk resident, Israel Murillos, in connection with a laptop stolen in April.
