P.G. man murdered with piece of firewood
A murder in San Vicente Village in the Toledo District also kept police busy early on Christmas morning. The motive is familiar: the affections of a woman, but in this case a piece of firewood was the deadly weapon of choice. According to investigators, around two o’clock on Christmas morning, fifty-five year old Basilio Calderon went to the home of sixty-four year old Pablo Escobar to buy wine. But sometime during the sale, Calderon says Escobar accused him of having an affair with his eighteen year old wife and pulled out a length of firewood to beat him. The two started to wrestle and according to police, Calderon has admitted that during the scuffle he got hold of the wood and hit Escobar in the head. The bleeding man was rushed to the Punta Gorda hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Calderon was subsequently arrested and tonight is charged with Murder.
