B.E.L. paints lampposts, politician repaints with ads
The battle for the city’s lampposts continued today with a strange dance taking place in the Pickstock Division. Belize Electricity Limited, owner of the poles, is making good on its pledge to keep political signs off its property. This morning its contractor, Keith Nicholas, was busy with his bucket of grey paint, obliterating the “vote Sedi” slogans that covered most of the constituency’s lampposts. The problem is that virtually right behind him a group of youths were undoing his work by stencilling the same “vote Sedi” over the freshly repainted poles. B.E.L. Corporate Communications Manager, Dawn Sampson, told us that the company will continue to appeal to the political parties to comply with their request lay off the lampposts. The use of posts for political advertising has become widespread both in Belize City and the districts.
