Arthur Arnold gets 15 years for manslaughter
Fifty-five year old bicycle cart delivery man, Arthur Arnold, who last Thursday pleaded guilty to Manslaughter and Use of Deadly Means of Harm with Intent to Commit Dangerous Harm, was sentenced today to fifteen years for the first offence and two years for the second by Justice Adolph Lucas. The sentences will run concurrently. Before he decided on the sentence, Justice Lucas heard pleas for mitigation from Arnold’s attorney Linsbert Willis and two character witnesses; Omar “Match” Habet and Ann Lind testified that Arnold was honest and hard working and they asked for leniency. Willis gave a lengthy history of Arnold’s work from messenger to delivery man and said the father of seven has expressed remorse for fatally stabbing his step-son, Jermaine Arnold and Randolph Gibson, whom he had accused of having an affair with his wife. Jermaine and Gibson were stabbed by Arnold the night of September eighth, 2006 at the house of Arnold’s wife, Carol Arnold. Arnold apparently became jealous when he went to the house and saw Gibson there watching television. He stabbed Gibson in the left side of his chest and was going to stab him a second time, but Jermaine pushed himself between them and was stabbed in the heart. Shortly after the incident Arnold went to the police station and gave himself up, signing a caution statement in which he confessed to stabbing Jermaine and Gibson. Crown Council Tracy Sosa represented the prosecution.
