Visitors on a “Cruise With a Mission”

Story PictureIt may have rained all day, but for one large group of cruise tourists in Belize City, the weather was not a factor. Instead of sun, sea, and sand, the members of this “Cruise With a Mission” were here to make life a little brighter for some children in need. News Five’s Marion Ali has more.

After clearing Customs at the Tourism Village, the visitors boarded buses and headed to their various locations, some as far away as Belmopan. Their work was made possible through coordination with President of the Belize Conference of Seventh Day Adventists, Pastor Arnold Scott.

“They are here to do some work. We’ll be at the Battlefield Park, beautifying the park, different orphanage, the medical clinic, we’ll be in Port Loyola and different areas in Belize. He’s the representative from “Cruise with a Mission” so they’ll be distributing all over Belize, Belmopan, Belize City, the orphanage, the park, they’re beautifying also the basketball courtyard at Canaan High School, so it’s a big event.”

Matthew Gamble says the trip to Belize was no fluke stop.

“Two years ago we had a vision to do something for young adults. Especially in the United States, a lot of people between the age of eighteen and thirty-five are no longer going to church, so we wanted to do something that would be empowering and impacting the young adults where not only would they do something as fun like a cruise, but they would come and serve various countries. So we’re on a commercial cruise ship where there are eleven hundred passengers and we make up about three hundred and thirty of the passengers. At each port we have service projects. … We have hundred of shoe boxes that are wrapped, filled with presents for children in various orphanages all over Belize City and the surrounding areas.”

The tourists raised their own money for their passage and the gifts they brought. Reporting for News Five, Marion Ali.
