Shotgun blast kills Cayo farmer in latest homicide

And while charges are amounting against the accused con-artist, Belmopan police are also investigating the country’s latest homicide. The victim is thirty-six year old David Santos, a resident of Camalote Village. According to authorities, on Saturday, Santos and another man were working on his farm located off the Prayer Mountain Road in Ontario Village. But the witness says when Santos took a break around four in the afternoon to drink some water, a shotgun blast from the nearby bush hit him in the face, fatally wounding him. The witness ran to get help but by the time police showed up, Santos was dead and there was no sign of the shooter. The victim’s firearm, a sixteen gauge shotgun, was found behind a tree a short distance away but investigators say a post-mortem scheduled for tomorrow will indicate if the weapon was used in the incident. While the case is listed as a murder, sources close to the investigation say they have not ruled out the possibility that Santos was accidentally shot by someone hunting in the area which would be then considered Manslaughter by Negligence.
