Pallotti musicians prepare for annual concert

Story PictureIt’s one of Belize’s most enduring musical institutions and on Sunday evening the Pallotti Chamber Group will be holding its Christmas Concert. The chamber orchestra includes the junior and advanced groups who will perform under the directorship of Jiles Rabinovich. Music teacher and member of the strings department, Colville Young Jr., says the variety of participants and music will generate wide appeal.

“It involves all young people, all members, and we have quite a variety at the moment, strings, piano, woodwinds, a little bit of brass winds as well. For the first time, we’ll also be having some vocal work. Some will be singing as well.”

“What can people expect who will attend?”

Colville Young Jr.
“Oh, there’s always that bit of nostalgia when Christmastime comes around and we have, at least this year especially, we’ve been trying to bias it a lot towards Christmas music and pieces like those that are kind of nostalgic. We’re also trying to add a little bit of Belizean folk to it all, a little bit of “Good Morning Miss Lady”, that sort of thing too, making it really enjoyable for families.”

“And the whole aim of it is to raise funds, no doubt?”

Colville Young Jr.
“Of course, yes. That’s a big part of it. We are trying to enlargen, to embark on a conservatory of sorts and that’s the whole purpose of it, yes.”

The event starts at six on Sunday evening at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts in Belize City. For more information call the Pallotti Convent at 223-1949.
