Robber sentenced to five years in prison
In court news, a Belize City man has been sentenced to five years in prison for a robbery that occurred in June. Thirty-five year old Michael “Dippy” Woods was given the punishment this morning following his conviction in the courtroom of Magistrate Albert Hoare. His victim, twenty-five year old Ephani Bacab, testified in court that around one-thirty on the morning of June third she was walking on Church Street when she felt someone following her. Bacab says she looked back and saw Woods coming at her, holding his left hand under his shirt as if he had a gun. She says Woods told her not to scream, otherwise he would kill her and then demanded that she hand over her purse. Bacab said she refused and a struggled ensued in which Woods managed to grab the bag containing two hundred dollars and a cell phone and run off. Woods, who was undefended in court, chose to remain silent during the proceedings.
