Talk show host releases 2nd book
In just a few minutes, a book launch will be held at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts. And as News Five’s Kendra Griffith explains, the publication is the colourful expression of a talented young woman.

Just days after the one year anniversary of her book launch, tonight Kalilah Enriquez is back with a second offering entitled “Shades of Red.”
Kalilah Enriquez, Author, Shades of Red
“Red is so expressive of so many different emotions. Red symbolises love, it symbolises anger, you can be seeing red, you can be in the red, it can symbolise sin, The Scarlet Letter, so many different things the colour red can symbolise, also a political stance, but that’s not what it symbolises in this sense.
According to the author, all those passions are captured in the publication’s forty-five poems, four short stories and thirty-one commentaries.

“Well for the fist part it’s a lot bigger than the last one. The last one was about half the size. This one is a hundred and seventy pages. That was about eighty something pages long and this is the first time I am publishing any short stories.”
“People have also been asking for my perspective, so I decided to put it all together in one.”
For Kalilah, writing is a way to express her emotions and she’s hoping readers will find a similar release in her words.

“If they have something that’s been on their mind and they can’t really think of exactly how to express themselves, I think there will be some aah moments when they read the book. They’ll say, aah, that’s exactly what I’ve been thinking about, this particular issue but I couldn’t figure out how to express it.”
But if reading is not your thing, Enriquez is simultaneously releasing a DVD of live performances.

“It’s called Kalilah Enriquez live, spoken word poetry. It features eight recorded pieces, all of them I did live. Two of them are from the Lik It! Poetry Festival, one is from Gimme 5 here on Channel 5 and there are a few more, also the new advertisement that you see out, Let’s Talk which was done for the cause of AIDS and HIV.“
”Poetry as a craft over the past twenty, thirty years hasn’t been really practised that much in Belize, or at least publicly so. I feel like it’s been a revitalisation of the craft and I love that more people are encouraged by the fact that I and other people are bringing out books and coming public with our works. I love it, love it, love it.”
Shades of Red sells for twenty dollars, while the DVD is available for fifteen. Kendra Griffith reporting for News Five.
Kalilah Enriquez will be holding a book signing session at the Angelus Press on Saturday morning. Later that night, another launch will be held at the Perk Up Café in Belmopan starting at seven.
