UNESCO awards funding for three projects
Three funding awards were made this morning by UNESCO to local organisations. Ava Pennil, the Director of the Human Services Department, received twenty-one thousand U.S. dollars for the publishing of a series of booklets explaining Belize’s Child Protection System. Also granted funding for a publication—in this case four thousand U.S. dollars–was the Museum of Belize for a catalogue complementing its popular “Jades of Belize” exhibition. The presentation was made to Museum Director Lita Krohn. Accepting an award of fifteen thousand, six hundred U.S. dollars on behalf of the National Garifuna Council was Phyllis Cayetano. The funding will be used to procure costumes and conduct a three week training workshop for over forty members of the National Garifuna Dance Company.
